Welcome
Dr. Melanie Janet Sindelar
Melanie Sindelar is an Assistant Professor of Social and Cultural Anthropology at Charles University Prague, where she teaches courses on museum studies, art anthropology, decolonization, and restitution.
Her research focuses on global art markets and their dynamics, the ways in which art intervenes in hegemonic narratives, and the role of so-called tribal art in contemporary collecting and display practices. She also works on questions of decolonization and restitution in ethnographic museums, with a regional expertise in the Gulf and the broader Global South.
She holds a Ph.D. in Social and Cultural Anthropology from the University of Vienna (with distinction) and an MSc in Social Anthropology from the University of Oxford.
